How Valorant Compares to Other Shooters
Riot Games is the developer behind one of the biggest MOBAs in the world, that being League of Legends . As such, the company seems to know what it is doing in putting together a well-crafted and team-oriented online experience. So when it announced a closed beta for Valorant , a single-life first-person shooter, many were excited to see what Riot Games would come up with. Thus far, Valorant hasn’t disappointed, as the game seems to be a wonderful mix of multiple other shooters, while still being its own unique g
Jett is certainly a fan-favorite, so I imagine this is where I’ll get the most backlash. Heck, even I play Jett more than the other agents. Her abilities are endlessly fun, with speedy dashes and quick, versatile smokes. Jett’s primary function is to outmaneuver and overwhelm opponents, requiring clever movement and precise aim with her knives. In the right hands, she can run away with match MVP easily. However, aside from her less-than-unique smokes, her abilities are rather inward. That is to say, Jett doesn’t have a ton of avenues to assist her team, anti-Air Item other than to slay
The big similarity between Blizzard’s Overwatch and Riot Games’ Valorant is that both titles use heroes or agents, and this is truly what sets Valorant apart from CS:GO as well. Just as Overwatch added MOBA-like elements to the shooter genre, which has then since been copied by the likes of the C all of Duty series, Paladins , and more, Valorant is now continuing that trend by adding it into the single life-team-oriented shoo
I’m going to get flack for this. But to be honest, one factor makes Omen less viable in the competitive scene: his predictable abilities leave him extremely vulnerable. His smokes are good, but they require manual placement and actuate very slowly. While Brimstone has the same grievances, he can place three smokes with much greater range, rendering Omen’s a worse alternative. His teleportation is also limited in range and quite slow to actuate. As far as his ultimate, it can be quite good, but the fact that everyone is acutely alerted upon its use makes it very difficult to be steal
In between each round of Valorant, players can purchase a primary, a sidearm, and shield. The weapons that are available can easily be compared to CS:GO. For example, the “Frenzy” in Valorant looks just like the “CZ-75” from CS:GO . The “Phantom” looks like an “AK-47.” And so on and so forth. Some may say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, others would say that Valve uses variations of real-life weapons, and Riot Games just uses those same guns, but spruces them up with a bit of and fantasy and imaginat
In between each round players are able to take a few moments to strategize and think about the round. This is different from some of the games in the direct genre as well. One could argue that this is something that is taken from Overwatch or Paladins , but it allows for planning and communicating between teammates that is definitely help
The first game that many will compare Valorant to is Counter-Strike: Global Offensive , a game that recently beat out DOTA 2 for peak concurrent players on Steam . CS:GO was released in 2012 by Valve. The Counterstrike series was originally a modification from Half-life and CS:GO is the fourth game in the ser
Even with all the comparisons, Valorant is absolutely still its own unique game, one that players have to experience for themselves to truly enjoy. The closed beta is starting to open up more over time, which is great news as additional players are able to enjoy the game together. Riot Games has confirmed that Valorant may come to consoles and mobile , which would also already set the title apart from CS:
Curveball operates in the same manner as the other flashbang style moves in the game. Its utility revolves around a player’s ability to communicate with their teammates. Tossing a curveball means that your teammates need to be right behind you as you rush to finish off the blinded enemies. However, curveball has some tricky utility with both Hot Hands and Blaze as you can toss either a fireball or a flame wall to dish out some huge damage on the enemy team. Using Curveball is a perfect way to set up some powerful combos with either your or your teammate’s abilities, leading to some potential major team wi
Phoenix’s ultimate is one of the most interesting in the game. As it provides the fire-casting character some of the best survivability in the game. Run it Back allows Phoenix to create a clone of himself which is set to a set timer. When this clone is cast Phoenix can travel from his “real” body and attack enemies, see their location, cast his abilities, or do anything he can in his set period. When the time is up he will travel back to where his “real” body is. If the Phoenix clone is defeated before the time is up than the clone will disappear and the Phoenix player will resume from his original location. This ability is one of the best abilities in the game and allows Phoenix players an unprecedented versatil
